The number of mobile phone subscribers amounted to 5.9 billion worldwide. An impressive number, especially since there are 7 billion people on earth.

The figure comes from the annual report of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Worldwide, 87 percent of people have mobile phones. In developing countries this 79 percent.

Internet is back on mobile phone usage. One third of the people on earth use the Internet, 45 percent of these are under 25 years. Especially the use of the Internet in developing countries has risen in recent years.

Netherlands has the largest fixed broadband connections per population, 38.1 per 100, followed by Switzerland (37.9 / 100) and Denmark (37.7 / 100). Our country is not in the top 25 countries with the most mobile broadband subscribers per 100 inhabitants. This list is led by Korea (91/100), Japan (87.8 / 100) and Sweden (84/100). Globally, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions almost 1.2 billion.

Korea tops the list of countries with the fastest broadband connections. More than 90 percent of the population has a rate of more than 10 megabits per second. Bulgaria is on the second place, while Ghana’s closing list.
