University of Southern California researchers have developed a flexible thin film transparent material of carbon atoms, and used it to create organic solar batteries. The new material is called graphene, and is consist of a layer of conductive by the excellent carbon atoms, the thickness are several atoms. Related research results have been published in ACS Nano.

This graphene conversion efficiency of organic solar battery is less than the silicon solar battery. LP141X10Per square meter of silicon solar cells can translate the 1000-watt solar energy into 14 watts of power, while the same area of organic solar batteries can only be translated graphene out 1.4 watts of power. However, graphene organic solar batteries cost is low  , and the flexibility is good , so the researchers are optimistic about their prospects, such as organic solar batteries that graphene can be made into household curtains, and even made clothes will be generating. Now researchers have been able to make graphene a variety of sizes, of which the largest is 150 square centimeters.
